Strong Women

I made this cross-stitch. I love it. I'm giving it to a friend. I think it's wonderful that these women are bring identified as role models for the things they do; not the way they look.

I've been tapering off the walks this past week, ready for The Bloody Long Walk at the weekend. This means I have been just pottering around the local houses and admiring the flurry of poppies cropping up in nearby gardens.

The weather has been wet, but we wanted to get one final preparation walk in during the week. Design Diva and I risked the overcast skies to walk the last leg, and were rewarded with the calm waters  and perfect reflections of Lake Burley Griffin.

We were thrilled to get to go to see a live gig at The Basement. It was called the Cohen Street Bash and featured four bands, all with something to say - which is good, according to the graffiti in the ladies' loos. We were mainly there for Box Dye, who are staunch and angry with great guitars and drums. I had not see them before, and they definitely did not disappoint.

Walk Whatever the Weather

A training walk around Holt as part of the walkcanberra.com website led me past innovative gardens, beautiful roses, a community park and, of course, a street library.

Floriade is over

One of my regular walks/runs goes through Umbagong District Park, where there are a couple of timber bridges half way round. These have been closed for over a year due to 'work' being done. I have never seen a single person working on these bridges, which is very frustrating as it means a perfectly good route is inaccessible. Others have clearly shared the same sentiment as they have removed the barriers to walk across without incident. The closure of the bridges has now become more permanent. Now, I'm all for safety but I'd really like to see some action on this issue.

On a happier note, people have been crocheting abstract images and native flora and fauna and securing them to trees, which is quite entertaining.

It's been a while since I had an Orval, but they are always tasty, spicy, warming and welcome.

Our group training walk was a repeat of Stage Two of The Bloody Long Walk, past more embassies, through more suburbs, and around more of the lake. It was also completed in pouring rain - we were utterly drenched!

Still smiling!

Due to extreme leakage and technical issues, it appears that I need new walking shoes and a new phone. So the next day I went shopping.

Essential supplies

The new phone has a new camera of course, so who or what would naturally be the first thing to photograph...?
