Away to Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island

As it is cold here, the cats are seeking the sunshine, where'er they may.

And so we left our darling girls behind (in the care of an excellent cat-loving friend) and headed north, flying to Townsville and then driving to Airlie Beach, through very flat landscape.

It is hot but humid up here (to which the following photos of my misbehaving hair will attest), so I'm sure the pool will be appreciated for the days we are here.

Day One involved getting our bearings and acclimatising, with a walk, breakfast at the marina, shopping at the markets (purchases: sunhats and local gin), cocktails and dinner at a smart resturant.

Anchor Bar is apparently wehere all the cool kids go. And us. I don't believe I have got the hang of this influencer thing. Him Outdoors seems much more of a natural. Or is it that beauty is in the eye of the photographer?

Dinner was at Sorrento, along the front.

The next day we went to Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays, where it is always drenched in sunshine in the photos in the brochures. We had thunderstorms, hail and driving rain. It was still beautiful though and the snorkelling was wonderful with great fish and coral on display.

Go to Hamilton Island, they said. It's the dry season, they said. The weather is perfect, they said...

For the holiday brochures...
