Week Forty-Seven: Practicing Outdoors

For my birthday Him Outdoors bought me a tripod and a remote control thingie - who says men can't take hints. I have practiced taking landscape shots...

...nature shots...

... and this was actually part of an experiment with exposure times - the experiment failed (although I did learn from it, so not a complete failure) but I couldn't resist posting this sequence of photos.

These were taken at the top of the Crown Range at the weekend - we went over for a cycle ride and a cider in the Cardrona Pub - there was low cloud and mist on the Queenstown side; clear blue skie and bright hot sunshine on the Wanaka side - hence the inversion shots.

Week Twenty-seven: Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Yep, once again, it's beautiful in the Deep South. And cold. We wrap up warm to go walking in the snow. But it's worth it. This is Lake Hayes with the Mischievous Minx, who manages to pick up a dog that doesn't belong to her. He has a phone number on his collar so she texts it to say 'I have walked all round the lake with some nice people and am ready to go home.'

A few days later I trudge through the snow on the hills of the Crown Range with Him Outdoors. I step in the footprints he leaves - the ones that don't sink into the snow-drifts. We have fabulous views over the ski-fields and the misty lakes of the Wakatipu Lakes District. Did I mention it was beautiful?

Week Twenty-six: Let it snow

We have had snow, as you can see. I dashed out while it was still falling to take pictures of Arrowtown until my hands got too cold to hold the camera.

Some of the kids had been bringing their toboggans down to the skate park.

While the old rusty ploughing equipment looks even more neglected.

Him Outdoors had to go over to Wanaka the next day and he took these photos from the Crown Terrace in the early morning.

Two days later I took these pictures from the same spot.
