I stopped off for a coffee in Curtin. Under clear blue skies, these birds sang to me.
Continuing the bird theme in the Canberra suburb, these rather lovely mosaics adorn small tables next to benches in the square outside the library.
I work with young people and we provide them with afternoon tea at the Learning Clubs that we run. This week is our last one before they break up for the end of the year, so we laid out some festive fayre.
At the weekend we saw The Breeders. They were fantastic, as I had hoped. They played a mixture of their old stuff (of course Iris, Cannonball and I Just Wanna Get Along were firm favourites) with a smattering of their more current output. Wait in the Car and Walking with a Killer are as much a sock to the gut as any of their more familiar-from-teenage-years tunes.
There is no posturing and posing from the band. Kim Deal still fronts up with effortless charm; her sister Kelley is all smiles and apologies when she has to go acoustic due to a dodgy connection; bassist Josephine Wiggs is cool and collected; drummer Jim Macpherson knows how and when to thrash and when to control. It's all so tight and wonderful. Oh, and they finish up with Gigantic as an encore. Big, big love, indeed.
